Virginia Mae Kangas died on November 12, 2007.  Virginia was a dear friend to Keweenaw Krayons, supporting the program in so many ways, attending our events and purchasing our greeting cards.

I'm not sure when I first met Virginia.  It seems she was always a part of the Keweenaw Krayons family and supporters.  It might have been when a group of Copper Country Mental Health employees (where she served as program director) came to visit the studio of Keweenaw Krayons when it was still housed at the Ramblin' Rose Art Center.  Several of the youth who attended Keweenaw Krayons participated in CCMH activities and while there, spoke highly of Keweenaw Krayons.  So Virginia decided the staff ought to take a look at what we were doing right that made the kids keep coming back.

Or did I first meet her at a SFSC Wrap meeting?  She was, as are we, a part of the Strong Families Safe Children (SFSC) Wrap Around Program.

I didn't see as much of Virginia in the past couple years after my retirement as Director of Keweenaw Krayons, but there is still a void in my life caused by her passing.

Virginia's co-workers at CCMH took up a collection in her name and the Virginia Kangas Memorial Fund donated $300 to Keweenaw Krayons.  We are grateful!
