We were all pretty excited when we learned we were one of three organizations chosen to receive the 2002 Governors' Cultural Organization Award.  Several of us made the trip to Dearborn to accept the award on November 19. We thank Peg Weikal of West Bloomfield (a frequent summer visitor to the Keweenaw) for nominating us; ArtServe Michigan for selecting us from over 275 nominees; Michigan Public TV (the awards ceremony sponsors) for their part in publicizing our organization; and Daimler Chrysler for sponsoring 8 of the tickets to the dinner and ceremony

The Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies (MACAA) exists to support, strengthen and unite community arts and cultural organizations in Michigan.

Keweenaw Krayons was honored to be chosen to receive one of five 2002 Great Lakes Community Arts Awards - Thank you MACAA!!!  Darlene Basto, Karen Bell-Hanson and Carol Rose made the trip to Lansing and had a great time at the annual meeting, gleaning new information, meeting fellow arts workers,  renewing connections and friendships.  We used the long trip down to write a poem which we joyously used for our acceptance speech.  2002 - a great year!!!
